5 Reasons to visit the Locally Yours Market

The Locally Yours Market is held in the Tramways building in Baakens River Valley, Port Elizabeth on the first Saturday of every month. It is a collection of some of the Eastern Cape’s most talented artisans showcasing their wares and is a perfectly fun family outing.

Here are 5 reasons why you should visit the next Locally Yours Market:

1. Support Local

We love sampling local food and buying beautiful things and it makes it so much more worthwhile to know our investment is going straight to the creators rather than some large conglomerate. There is such talent around us and buying local means that we are supporting that talent to grow and keep doing what they do best.

2. Inspirational art & crafts

We were blown away by the creativity, originality and sheer awesomeness of the arts and crafts on display at the Locally Yours Market. You always think everything has already been invented until you meet a colony of artists. Our absolute favourites were Lin Delly’s pots (not only are her standard pots utterly adorable, but she also custom designs pots with your pets’ faces on them!), the artworks by the Association of Mouth and Foot Painters (we even got to meet one of the talented artists) and the cute printed bags by S&A Screen Print.

We also spotted some very nifty little pig braais, amazing Xhosa beaded pottery, handmade knives by Charles Fuller and the most fabulous Afro cushions and bar stools from Igoti.

3. Divine food

A market wouldn’t be complete without artisan food and we loved sampling the wares. For lunch, Cian and Jess had pancakes, Ralph had some spicy curry and I enjoyed samosas followed by a decadent fudge caramel flapjack pot with a large freezo cappuccino from Munros.

We loved Mooks’ rich pestos and Mustardeli’s amazing flavoured mustards and sampled some of Nutristart’s newest products (coffee muesli!).

4. Fabulous fashion

From active wear to funky fashion and hippie threads, there is something for everyone. I adore my new tree of life hippie shirt from Zen Hippie Jbay. We arrived at the market during a pop up fashion show modelling all the market fashion and it was fun to watch all the action.

I would love to wear my way through the entire rack!

5. Free Entrance

And best of all, its absolutely free! There is no entrance fee, so if you are looking for some inspiration, you can get your fix without forking out a cent. Although its pretty much guaranteed that you will leave with a goodie bag filled with fabulousness!

We love the Locally Yours Market
